  Overview

The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) is supporting the 6th International Symposium of Water Disaster Mitigation and Water Environment Regulation (WDWE), which will take place from 21 to 23 October 2026 at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) in Singapore. Abstract submissions are open until 6 September 2026.

The symposium is collaborating with the IAHR Thematic Priority Area (TPA) on Improving Resilience against Water Hazards and Disasters. Building on discussions held at the recent IAHR World Congress, this collaboration aims to progressively establish the WDWE conference series as a flagship event of the TPA.

As outlined in the IAHR Strategic Plan 2024–2027, the TPA provides a cross-cutting umbrella that complements the work of IAHR Technical Committees and seeks to engage stakeholders beyond academia, including government agencies, industry and insurance sectors, with the aim of translating research into practical guidelines, standards and actionable solutions for building resilience.

Founded in 2019, the previous five WDWE symposia have been held across the East Asian region. The 2026 edition will be co-located with the 2026 Annual Symposium of the Coastal Protection and Flood Resilience Institute (CFI) Singapore and the 2026 Asia Tsunami Workshop, bringing together expertise across coastal engineering, water disaster mitigation, tsunami science and environmental regulation.

Abstracts are invited across six tracks covering coastal science; engineering solutions for coastal protection, flood management and disaster mitigation; integrated nature-based solutions for coastal protection; sustainable and resilient infrastructure for coastal and water systems; monitoring, modelling and digital systems for water and coastal environments; and integrated and adaptive planning for coastal and flood risk.
