The International Journal of River Basin Management, Volume 24, Issue 5, 2026 is Now Available!

Captura de pantalla 2026-10-05 103520.pngThe Journal of River Basin Management (JRBM) plays a specific role in promoting a cross-sectorial approach encompassing all aspects of river and floodplain management, with a truly global perspective. The Journal is a response by the scientific and professional community to the World Water Vision and calls for an integrated approach to water resources management.

Overview

The Issue 5, Volume 24 of the International Journal of River Basin Management was just published, and contains studies spanning flood risk and modeling, water quality and sediment pollution, climate and hydrological modeling, river governance, and fluvial morphology and ecology.

Among the twelve research papers constituting this issue, you will find flood-focused studies ranging from GIS-based multi-criteria mapping of flood-prone zones in Kaziranga National Park, India, to a comparison of coupled 1D/2D, fully 2D and coarse-resolution HEC-RAS models evaluated against SAR-derived flood boundaries on the Spercheios River, Greece. Water quality and sediment contamination are addressed through a comparative analysis of textile industry effluents in the northern Ganga basin and a GIS and multivariate statistical assessment of heavy metal contamination along the Mangalore coast. Other contributions examine salinity dynamics under sea-level rise in the Aghien Lagoon, Côte d'Ivoire, historical and future rainfall trends over the Narmada River basin, and a comparative review of AI/ML-based hydrological models. The social and institutional dimensions of river basin management are explored through studies on stakeholder power relations in Ghana's Pra River Basin, ecocentric narratives for river governance illustrated by the Whanganui River, and a multi-stakeholder SWOT framework for watershed management in Iran. The issue closes with contributions on sustainable bank stabilisation of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna River and the influence of suspended sediment on environmental DNA accuracy for fish monitoring in mountain rivers.

This fifth Issue of 2026 showcases the wide range of topics considered by JRBM, as river basin management calls for a holistic approach, combining expertise from technical and social sciences.
