 About

Prof. Hinkelmann is head of the Chair of Water Resources Management and Modeling of Hydrosystems since 2004. The number of doctoral students at the chair (funded by the university, external funds and scholarships) has been around 10 in the last years, the number of total staff including research students, secretary and system administrator varies between 15 and 20.

In education lectures are given in fluid mechanics, hydraulic engineering, engineering hydrology, water resources management and modeling of hydro- and environmental systems. The courses are offered in the bachelor and master programmes in Civil Engineering, Environmental Technologies and Water Engineering (the last at TU satellite campus El Gouna, Egypt) as well as in the doctoral prgramme Research Training Group “Urban Water Interfaces“ (RTG UWI) funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Research foci of the chair are (i) modelling of flow and transport processes in surface waters, (ii) modelling of flow and transport processes in subsurface systems and (iii) model development and hydroinformatics. Prof. Hinkelmann is currently Speaker of the Research Training Group “Urban Water Interfaces“ (13 doctoral students, 12 applicants; 2015 - 2024) located at TU Berlin and the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin. In recent years, the chair had emphasis on shallow water flows, robust numerical methods, high-resolution two- and three-dimensional hydraulic and environmental flows applied to flash floods, river restoration, urban waters, sewer systems, hyporheic zone and water quality.
