IAHR celebrates Africa Day 2022!

Today we celebrate Africa Day! The annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (25 May 1963).

This year's Africa Day theme focuses on the importance of addressing malnutrition and food insecurity, in which water plays a crucial role. IAHR has an Africa Division, dedicated to bolstering our positive impact on the continent, that is working to create solutions for the unique water security and climate change challenges and help meet NetZero and sustainability targets.

Our first 2022 edition of Hydrolink magazine was also focused on Africa, exploring several water-related challenges including the lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation WASH), the availability of water for food production, protection from catastrophic floods, the sustainable management of its water resources, and the protection of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. The online version of Hydrolink is open to non-members: Hydrolink 2022-1 Africa

We are also pleased to share that we are running an Africa summer school on 2-12 October 2022, introducing to participants the main principles of Hydro-environmental-engineering and their importance and practical applications in Africa.

We’re thrilled to announce that the grants will be awarded to the best final papers submitted to the 39th IAHR World Congress by delegates from African countries and will give the winners the opportunity to join the world-leading community of research and best practice in hydro-environment engineering and enjoy IAHR’s unique benefits.

We commend the many achievements and accomplishments of all IAHR members and partners across the continent, and look forward to the many more to come!
