By incidence this opportunity came on the 250th anniversary of the death of Luigi Vanvitelli, the designer of the famous Royal Palace in Caserta (under the Bourbon king Charles) and the related marvellous water supply system.
The first decades of the third Millennium are characterized by emerging and increasing attention to water as a primary need for life, as well as potential source of natural disasters. The event was the first opportunity to meet the hydraulic international community and initiate a professional network that has been continuously expanded since. Over the last three decades, I have been committed to this community. Following the 1993 IAHR congress and the seminar on Hydroinformatics, I attended the first International Conference on Hydroinformatics (HIC) at IHE, Delft, the Netherlands.
