Peter Davies (Born 07 November 1944) is an Emeritus Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the University of Dundee, with research interests in Environmental Fluid Mechanics. His work on rotating and stratified flows earned him numerous accolades and awards, including election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (1996) and a Foreign Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science & Letters (2010), Karl Emil Hilgard Prize of the American Society of Civil Engineers (2008), and Lord Kelvin Medal, Senior Prize, Royal Society of Edinburgh (2013). His work has been published in 120 peer-reviewed archival papers in leading international journals, covering subject areas of jets and plumes, marine outfalls, stratified and rotating turbulence, internal and solitary waves, sediment transport, internal hydraulics, flow structure interactions, aquaculture, and gravity currents. To support his work, he has attracted external grant funding from the UK Research Councils [(Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)], European Union (EU) Marine Science & Technology (MAST) Programme, UK Health & Safety Executive, and NATO Scientific Affairs Division. He has supervised 20 PhD students and 11 postdoctoral fellows.
