About
Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Farriz Basar is a distinguished renewable energy scholar and registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He earned his PhD in Renewable Energy from the Solar Energy Research Institute, The National University of Malaysia. With more than two decades of academic and research experience at the Faculty of Electrical Technology and Engineering, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), he has played a significant role in advancing sustainable energy technologies and community-driven energy solutions. He previously served as an Academic Visitor at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Dr. Farriz’s work bridges engineering innovation with societal impact, focusing on renewable energy systems, sustainable design integration, and practical strategies to accelerate energy transition in developing communities. His commitment to humanistic and sustainable innovation has earned him international recognition, including the ASEAN Energy Award from the ASEAN Centre for Energy, the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies Award (UK), the IEEE Malaysia Best Project Innovation Award, the IEM Young Engineer Award, and the Green Award from the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET). He continues to champion transformative research aligned with regional and global sustainability agendas.
