About
I am a Mexican researcher and PhD candidate in Hydroinformatics at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and TU Delft in the Netherlands. With a background in natural resources engineering and an M.Sc. in water basin management, my work focuses on the participatory management, monitoring, and restoration of river and freshwater ecosystems, especially in small tropical watersheds in Latin America. Over the past decade, I have worked in interdisciplinary projects combining science, education, and community engagement. As a university lecturer and environmental facilitator, I have designed and led workshops, river walks, ecological restoration activities, and citizen science initiatives that empower local communities to engage in freshwater conservation. Some of my key experiences include: Participatory conservation and restoration of El Cangrejo stream, in Autlán, Jalisco, Mexico, in collaboration with the University of Guadalajara. UNESCO-GGRETA project, contributing to the transboundary aquifer governance roadmap between El Salvador and Honduras through stakeholder dialogue facilitation and synthesis. Home River Bioblitz, a global citizen science initiative using river photography and biodiversity monitoring across 20+ countries. Founder and co-coordinator of “Vigilando Ríos y Arroyos”, a regional citizen science network in the Autlán Basin, which combines environmental education, participatory protocols, and river photography to assess stream health with over 100 active participants. My current research explores the integration of ground-based imagery, citizen science, and multimodal artificial intelligence to assess river habitat ecosystem conditions, aiming to make river monitoring more inclusive, visual, and scalable.
