* This profile page is created/updated for the 39th IAHR World Congress (June 19-24, 2022) * Michiel Knaapen is a principal scientist in the Coasts and Estuaries Group at HR Wallingford. With a MSc In applied mathematics and a PhD in Civil Engineering and management, his main area of expertise is the sediment transport coastal and offshore geomorphology. Michiel has over 20 year experience in both data analysis and modelling of riverine, coastal and offshore morphodynamics with a focus on the interaction between engineering, such as dredging, port constructions, pipelines or cables and coastal protection schemes. Before joining HR Wallingford 15 years ago, Michiel Knaapen has been a lecturer at the University of Twente, the Netherlands and a research fellow at the University of Southampton. In this position he has been involved in a large number of European projects and won grants from national and international research bodies. He has been a member of the Marine Board for the European Science Foundation. He has over 55 papers to his name including over 20 peer reviewed journal publications."
