Abstract: In this paper, results of a study to cope with serious sedimentation issues in the Wonogiri Reservoir, Indonesia are introduced. Besides the field investigation and data analysis, a depth-integrated 2D numerical model was applied to analyze the reservoir sedimentation and to evaluate alternative structural countermeasures. According to the sedimentation feature in the reservoir and effects of various structural alternatives, construction of a Sediment Storage Reservoir with new gate was recommended for one of the sustainable reservoir sedimentation countermeasures. This Sediment Storage Reservoir will be created inside the reservoir by installation of a closure dike and a new sluicing gate in the Sediment Storage Reservoir portion, allowing two reservoir portions to be operated separately without affecting on the reservoir functions. Comparing to the current situation, the sedimentation near the dam and the intake will be dramatically improved.
