Abstract: Groundwater monitoring and prediction are required for suitable management of groundwater resources in coastal areas. In this study, a field survey was conducted to investigate the present situation of seawater intrusion at a coral island in Japan. The immiscible approach based on the concept of an abrupt interface approximation was applied to the analysis of the field data. This approach was verified with laboratory data of steady and unsteady experiments on saltwater intrusion. It is also shown that the calculated groundwater levels and the position of the seawater intrusion are in good agreement with the measured levels and the vertical position of the 50% concentration at the observation wells in the island.
