Abstract: Critical velocity of the open channel flow in the Czech reach of Elbe river necessary for re-suspension of cohesive sediments was determined using hydraulic modelling under the presumption of identical velocities. To this aim, the cohesive sediments directly taken from Elbe bottom were used. It was necessary to choose such field and laboratory tests which would find the relevant geotechnical characteristic of sediments and indicate the unchanging quality of samples installed in the hydraulic model.
