Daily Optimization of Power Generation in Cascade Hydrosystems (A Stochastic Approach)

Abstract: The cascade system of buffer reservoirs and low-head hydroplants constitutes a significant part of the Romanian hydropower system. A mathematical model for shortterm operational optimi-zation of such a cascade hydrosystem is proposed, using a stochastic approach. The inflow discharges (in connection with the hydrologic regime of the catchment), and the discharges for water-supply uses, of water storage are considered as random variables with their probability density functions being estimated according to both hydrological conditions and operational practice. The reliability of the proposed model is proved by an actual numerical case study, the input-output data, as well as the optimization algorithm being presented in detail.
