Abstract: Factors which affect the viability of small hydro power projects are discussed. These include the susceptibility of projects to flooding, sedimentation and availability of head. Storage can be a major cost particularly in semi-arid environments. Of lesser importance are load factor, distance to electrical grid and flow volume.
