The Realisation of the Kanata Hydro Power Plant in Bolivia

Abstract: The Kanata Hydro Power Plant was erected on the basis of the first IPP (Independent Power Producer) concession in Bolivia hold by SYNERGIA S. A. (Sociedad Anonima–Stock Holding Company) Kanata is a multi purpose high head hydro power plant with one of the largest gross heads in Latin America of appr. 1200 m. The infrastructural importance of Kanata is twofold-production of electric energy for the national grid and amelioration of the supply with drinking water for the Municipality of Cochabamba. SYNERGIA is one of Bolivia`s five concessionaire companies to generate electricity in the deregulated electricity market in Bolivia.
