Abstract: The energy dissipation arrangement is the most important part in the design of a spillway for a dam. Various types have been tried so far. However, the hydraulic jump type stilling basin is found to be most effective one. In functioning of this type, the tail water rating curve plays an important role while finalising the apron level of the stilling basin as well as the length of the spillway (indirectly the No. and sizes of gates). In the Present paper an attempt is made duly supported by the calculations to corelate the 1]Slope of tail channel 2]Height of dam 3]The discharge intensity so that no modifications in tail water rating curve are required for satisfactory functioning of the stilling basin.
