Abstract: The River System Simulator (RSS) is an integrated modelling tool for assessing environmental and other impacts from hydropower development. The RSS was applied to the regulated river Maana in central southern Norway. The river Maana has no minimum flow release today, but after re-licensing of the hydro power system, a minimum environmental flow is expected to be released in the lower parts of the river. The RSS was applied to the system to quantify effects on power production, water covered area, water quality, ice formation, water temperature and physical living conditions for fish (fish habitat). The analysis concluded with recommending an environmental flow release of around 4 m 3 s -1.
