Abstract: The mass transfer coefficient across the air-water interface in open-channel turbulent flows was computed by means a numerical solution of a simplified version of the diffusion equation. The advective term was generated synthetically assuming that it follows a Markovian process. The numerical results are in agreement with experimental data reported by some researchers. Additional information hard to obtain experimentally, such as the concentration turbulent fluxes and the eddy diffusivity across the concentration boundary layer, were also computed.
