Abstract: After the experimental impoundment of the Three Gorges reservoir (TGR) in 2008, sediment transportation after flooding disappeared at reservoir tail and the sediment transportation stage was postponed to the water level downfall period of TGR before flooding with the water level increasing and the optimization of the regulation, the sediment transport law had changed and cumulative sedimentation at TGR tail had occurred. The method of sedimentation reduction at TGR tail during the water level downfall period before flooding in 2011 and 2012 had been studied for optimized regulation of sedimentation reduction, which had also been applied into the practical sedimentation reduction experiment. At last an improved method about sedimentation reduction of TGR was suggested based on the above-mentioned simulation and practices. The research could provide a good technological support for sedimentation reduction regulation of TGR during the water level downfall period.
