Abstract: In daily regulating hydropower station, the establishment of its scheduling mode is mainly dependent on the pursuit of maximizing use of hydropower resources and to gain maximization of economic benefits. This mode leads to the unsteady flow in downstream river, the discharged flow of the station varies as the electricity demand from peaks to valleys in a day, and such extreme unnatural change of hydrological regime accomplished in an instant. Furthermore, the daily variations of the discharge, water depth, average velocity, cross-section width and other water hydraulic parameters increases, and their rates of change becomes dramatic. The large changes caused many negative effects on spawning grounds in the river. As the physiological pressure of being eliminated when the flow increased rapidly or being stranded when the flow decreases rapidly in this unsteady flow environment, the mortality rate of aquatic organisms is extremely high. In a case of a daily regulating hydropower station located in the southwest mountain river, Schizothoraxprenanti that is a representative of the dominant species in the southwest mountain river is selected as the research target, this paper study the influence of unsteady flow on flow environment in typical spawning ground of Schizothoraxprenanti. The research results can provide a scientific basis for optimizing the regulation of hydropower station, meanwhile it have practical significance for protecting fish habitat in the downstream.
