Abstract: The Wuxikou Project locates at the middle reach of Chang River in Jiangxi province, China. The Wuxikou dam is the important flood control project for downstream area. Simulation of Wuxikou dam-break flood routing is very important for Jingdezhen flood risk management. In this paper, a two-dimensional dam break flood routing model for Wuxikou Project is established, which bases on the shallow water equations through the use of the computational code TELEMAC-2D. The downstream reaches about 60km long and below the elevation of 60m is chosen as the research range. The computational range is meshed with triangular elements which refines locally. The turbulent κ-ε model is adopted. The discharge at the dam site and stage-discharge curve is used as the boundary conditions for upstream and downstream respectively. The numerical model is verified with field data at Chang River and Zhangshukeng station. Both results are generally in good agreement which shows the TELEMAC-2D model is suitable for dam-break flood routing. The model is applicated to simulate the dam-break flood routing under different flood return period, which dam-break is caused by overtopping failure. The hydraulic characteristic parameters such as depth, discharge and peak time of discharge etc are given as the basic information for flood risk management.
