Abstract: Movement of suspended material in a brackish lake is affected by many factors such as wind-induced flow, inflow, or salinity. We aim to obtain space-time distribution of turbidity and velocity simultaneously for investigating sediment resuspension and transportation in the lake. In this study, we adopted acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP) for estimating turbidity in the brackish lake. Turbidity was calculated from echo intensity of ADCP with sonar equation. This method has been conducted in many rivers, lakes and estuary. However, there are few studies for investigating accuracy and applicability of this method under longer period. First, we conducted fixed-point observation of ADCP and checked accuracy of estimated value. Estimated turbidity was almost adapted to observed value. Next, we compared the accuracy of this method in several points in the lake. Estimated turbidity could be reproduced observed value under lower salinity. However, accuracy of estimation was not well under higher salinity. Final, we compiled the accuracy and applicable of turbidity estimation during this observation and proposed some points for applying this method for monitoring in the field.
