Abstract: This study aims to investigate the effect of current velocity assimilation (CVA) on sediment transport modeling. A three dimensional integrated hydrodynamic-sediment transport model for Deep Bay, Hong Kong was built based on FVCOM. Model simulations without and with CVA were conducted. The model results were validated by field measurement data and it showed a good improvement in both velocity and sediment concentration in the simulation with CVA. The root mean square error for simulated current velocity improved by 23% and the improvement for sediment concentration modeling was more than 7% . It was also revealed that sediment transport modeling with CVA is able to enhance the accuracy of vertical and spatial distributions of sediment concentration prediction.
