Abstract: The coastal zone continuously changes due to natural processes and human interference. For understanding and predicting these morphological changes, an accurate description of sediment transport, caused by waves and tidal or wave-induced currents, is of great importance. This paper presents a review on the state-of-the-art knowledge of sediment transport under waves and currents, including sediment inception motion, bed form, bed roughness, bed-load transport, suspended-load transport, sediment-carrying capacity, and numerical simulation. Some possible research fields and topics in the further are proposed.
