Abstract: In 2005 and 2011, the Pollution characteristics of heavy metals in sediment of Chongqing urban section of Three Gorges Reservoir were investigated and analyzed by assessing the geoaccumulation index and the potential ecological risk of actual measurement of eight monitoring stations (Lijiatuo, Egongyan, Huangshaxi, Shanhuba, Dafosi (Cuntan), Huanghuayuan, Hualongqiao, Ciqikou). The results showed that from 2005 to 2011, Pb pollution degree was serious, but the pollution of Pb in all monitoring stations was low, in each section, Cd potential ecological risk index is higher. Compared with 2005, the index of 2011 declined. The Lijiatuo, Egongyan, Huangshaxi and Shanhuba potential ecological risk index were higher than forty, belong to the medium of potential ecological risk. The risk index of Dafosi (Cuntan), Ciqikou, Huanghuayuan was down to slight potential ecological risk from moderate. The situation of Yangtze River section was worse than that in Jialing river.
