Abstract: This work proposes a multi-objective simulated annealing algorithm (MOSA-II), for the water distribution network (WDN) design problem of minimizing the total pipe costs and maximizing the network resilience index. The results obtained by MOSA-II are compared with those obtained by five multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) on three WDN benchmark case studies in terms of quality of the solutions found and computational effort. The results show the good quality of final solutions obtained by MOSA-II for less computational effort than is required for MOEAs. Furthermore, new optimal solutions that redefine the best known Pareto front of the benchmark case studies are presented.
