Abstract: The application of new technologies in fields such as land survey and ecology is providing frequent improvements and advances in data collection instruments and techniques, as well as tools used for data processing. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) combined with photogrammetric techniques represent an effective alternative to classical topographical surveys in some environment. In this study we generated a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of a fluvial channel using UAV imagery collected in several consecutive segments of the Palancia River in Viver (Castellon, Spain). Three-dimensional reconstruction of the river channel was possible using Structure from Motion photogrammetry. In addition to the imagery taken by the UAV, a set of ground control points (GCPs) were measured in the field by d GPS. These GCPs appear in the imagery and make up the field control necessary for georeferencing and scaling the DEM. Then we created orthophotos for the whole river reach in the DEM, with the future aim of analysing alternatives for granulometric analyses and a hydraulic simulation in the river reach.
