Abstract: In this work, a free surface flow model (Riverflow2D) based on 2D Shallow Water Equations solved with an explicit first order upwind finite volume method is implemented for running on GPU and used to assess floods in the Ebro River. Due to the use of GPU, simulations of large flood scenarios in the river are completed in hours instead of days offering detailed information. In the present work, time evolution of water depth in some points along the bed river and the flood-plain, velocity and flooded area are evaluated. In addition, the results provided by the model are compared with real measurements proving its accuracy.
