Abstract: Velocity of flow for incipient motion condition of sediment particles is the fundamental parameter required for use in studies on Fluvial Hydraulics. Using the data for average critical velocity for different sediment sizes collected by different investigators, a single functional relationship has been obtained between First: Froude Number involving relative density and sediment size, Second: depth of water and sediment size, third: relative density, sediment size and kinematic viscosity of fluid. The proposed relation applies to channel boundaries behaving as smooth, transition and rough.
