Abstract:

Dike failures, which occurred during floods, is due to seepage flows and soil deformation. In this study, a numerical model to predict a dike deformation process due to seepage flows was developed, by coupling a three-dimensional flow model and a soil deformation model based on elasto-plastic approach. The model was applied to a hydraulic experiment to validate the model performance. Soil deformation on the backside due to seepage flows is observed and this model can predict the dike deformation process due to seepage flows reasonably. (2617, 71, 318)
