Abstract: The existence of ice jam intensifies the local scour at the pier, and the existence of local scour also influences the evolution of ice jam at the pier. The ice wave crest height, development process of ice wave and the change of backwater height variation during ice jam are of great significance to better understand the ice jam evolution process at the pier. Using polyethylene particles as natural ice simulation material, the development process of ice wave and backwater height variation during ice jam under the influence of local scouring were studied by flume experiment. Compared with the case without local scour and open flow conditions, the calculation formula of wave crest height under the influence of local scour is proposed. The effects of local scour on ice wave propagation velocity, ice transport capacity at pier and backwater height variation during ice jamare discussed. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data.
