Abstract: Citizen science, broadly described as the engagement and participation of the general public in different aspects of scientific research such as data collection, interpretation, processing and analysis, is an emerging approach for improving data availability, as well as public outreach. It offers the opportunity to develop and use high-density data to improve the understanding of hydrologic processes and the ability to model them for predictive purposes. This issue of Hydrolink includes five articles discussing different aspects of using citizen science in hydro-environmental and water resources studies. They discuss current developments in the field and tell stories of using citizen science for the study and the environmental restoration of different water bodies.
