Abstract: Experimental observations on the bubble plume in the linearly stratified density of water with a cross flow were conducted in the water flume. The digital image processing technique was employed to analyze the images of bubble plume from experimental works. We obtain results as follows: (1) When the density gradient and cross flow is kept the same, the height of unchanged density position increases as increasing the air discharge. (2) Larger cross flow speed makes the axis of the bubble plume bend more. (3) For the cases of the same air discharges and cross flow speeds, the height of unchanged density position is lower when the ambient water density gradient increases. This implies that water density stratification inhibits the rise up of bubble plume.
