Abstract: In this experimental study the submerged inclined (angle ■ with ▲) water jump over a sill is presented, analyzed and discussed. An approximate criterion is provided of whether or not the submerged jump may remain as such or may turn to a free jump over a sill. The maximum to minimum depths' ratio is examined and a general equation – combined with a Table of coefficients – are given. Finally the form of the free surface profile is examined and suitable equations are presented. The results of this study may be useful to hydraulic engineers when designing pertinent hydraulic works.
