Abstract: Three-dimensional flow velocity distributions in a vertical slot fishway were systematically measured by acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV) 3D down-looking and 3D side-looking probes respectively, and the corresponding tests of fish movement were carried out in this paper. Through the experimental investigations, the longitudinal and transverse distribution characteristics at different flow rates and on different horizontal planes were analyzed and compared. Variation in the maximum longitudinal velocity along flow direction and vortex characteristics in the pool were proposed. In addition, the behaviors of fish movement in the pool were given based on the experimental study. The above-mentioned research results can be for reference in designing vertical slot fishway.
