Abstract: Based on the monitoring data of the spawns of the four major Chinese carps carried out by Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences in Jianli gauge of the Yangtze River from 1997 to 2006, MIKE 11software was used in this study to simulate the water flow process in Zhutuo-Wuhan mainstream of the Yangtze River (1997-2006) and the curve of the drift time versus the propagation distance from any point of the upper reaches to Jianli gauge as the zero point was worked out. According to the spawning characteristics of the four major Chinese carps during the swelling period, with the time of the four Chinese carps caught at the Jianli gauge as the benchmark, possible spawning sites of the carps in the upper reaches were analyzed and statistics of the spawn probability at each section was done year by year. The study result shows that, since the Three Gorges Dam (TGD) was impounded in 2003, there is a significant change in the spawn probability of the four major Chinese carps in TGD impounded area and the watercourse 60km below Gezhouba Dam (GZB); There is no significant change in mainstream below GZB more than 60km.
