Abstract: Combined with the hydraulic model test of a hollow pile intake, the fluid characteristics of a new pump intake have been studied in this paper. The pump intake is located offshore and its flow condition is affected by both the tide and the supporting piles around it. The structure of this pump intake is unconventional. The effects of the following factors on the flow pattern of the hollow pile pump intake have been analyzed, the sea level, the background velocity caused by the tide, the shape of pump pipe and the submergence depth. According to the model test results, optimization measures have been proposed. The research results would supply the guideline for similar projects.
