Abstract: Hydraulic modelling of selected fishpass designs facilitating upstream and downstream passage for small (50-100 mm long) migratory fish species was undertaken at The University of Auckland. The investigated designs included: a) a perturbation-boulder channel of arranged boulder roughness elements that are emergent for low flows, and b) a vertical-slot channel. The testing results presented in this paper include: the hydraulic roughness for the perturbation-boulder channel of large isolated roughness elements, and the discharge function for the vertical-slot fish pass.
