Abstract: This paper presents an experimental study of two-dimensional flow structures within cavitation zone of abrupt offset into flow in a non-circulating water tunnel based on the PIV (particle image velocimetry) technique. Models of abrupt offset into flow were fabricated by stainless steel plate, whose heights were 2mm and 5mm high respectively. Test velocity was between 32m/s and 36m/s. Air concentrations were0.0%, 5.8%, 9.7% and 13.7% respectively. In the absence and presence of aeration, longitudinal and vertical velocity profiles within cavitation zone of abrupt offset into flow were measured by PIV system. Effects of aeration on longitudinal and vertical velocity profiles were analyzed. A comparison of flow characteristics between 2mm and 5mm abrupt offsets into flows were made. Flow structures within cavitation zone of the offset were proposed.
