Abstract: The density function method is one of the powerful tools for solving a complicated free surface flow problem. However, a free surface becomes dim due to a numerical diffusion and it leads to the failure of the conservation of fluid volume. In this paper, the volume correction method is proposed to make the free surface clear and ensure the volume and mass conservations of both the liquid and gas phases. The effect of the proposed method was checked by solving dam break problems with a whole closed boundary condition. It is found that the volume correction method is effective.
