Abstract: Tetrahedron Frame Groups (TFG) protection method is used more and more in river engineering in China, while due to the complex geometry, it's difficult to measure the velocity fields inside TFG using traditional measurement methods, which limit the further understanding about mechanism of TFG protection method. A 3D hydrodynamic model based on CFD code Fluent is developed to predict the velocity fields and drags for single wall sticking Tetrahedron Frame (TG). The realizable k-ε model was adopted for turbulent closure of the RANS equations. Computational results are compared with experimental data. The study demonstrates that the numerical model can effectively supplement experimental studies in understanding the complex flow fields and the mechanism of TFG protection method, the diagram of drag coefficient CD versus Reynolds number Re is also presented, when the Reynolds numbers are larger than 105, drag coefficient CD tend to be a constant value 1.557.
