Abstract: In order to recognize the main service functions of Baiyangdian Wetland, the ecosystem service values in the 1950s and at present have been assessed from four parts, including provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural function. Several value evaluation methods have been used in this paper, such as shadow engineering method and alternative cost method etc, based on wetland survey data in Hebei province. The results show that service function of Baiyangdian Wetland has significantly degenerated since 50's in 20 century. The ecological service value has decreased to 1.83 billion Yuan from 2.72 billion Yuan. Maintenance of ecosystem integrity has become main service function instead of flood control. In the 50's, flood control accounted for 58.95%, which was the most important. Nevertheless, maintenance of ecosystem integrity accounts for 48.53% of the total service values, which is the core service function at present. The major causes of main service function transformation are climate change and human activities.
