Abstract: The teleconnections between atmospheric large-scale oscillations (Southern Oscillation (SO) and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO)) and Turkish precipitation were determined. For this purpose, correlations between the indicators of large-scale oscillations (SO index (SOI) and NAO index (NAOI)) and Turkish precipitation patterns, represented by 94 stations, were calculated by forming various seasons. Correlations were calculated by using seasonal averages of the circulation indices and precipitation values to come across highest correlation structures. Therefore, the potential of long-range precipitation prediction in Turkey was also searched by calculating cross-correlation coefficients for several time lags. The NAOI–Turkish precipitation relationship was found to be completely significant in winter. For the SOI–Turkish precipitation relationship, correlations were found to be significant for a lesser number of stations. The strength of the relationship between the NAO and Turkish precipitation is high compared to that of the SOI-Turkish precipitation relationship.
