Two Dimensional Water Quality Analysis Considering Parameter Uncertainty

Abstract: A rapid increase of wastewater discharge, caused by industrial development and population growth, and frequent drought ask for an effective water quality control and management of river flows. In this study, a hydrodynamic numerical system, be composed of a two-dimensional flow prediction model and a contaminant transport model, was developed and applied to the scientific water quality control and management of the Nakdong River with reliability analysis. The violation probabilities of existing water quality standards at several locations along the river were computed from the MFOSM method with the consideration of variations of river discharges, pollutant loads from tributaries, and reaction coefficients. Also, the probabilistic results were compared with those from the Monte Carlo method. The statistical results from the comparative study with the uncertainty analysis methods showed that the outputs from MFOSM method were similar to those from the Monte Carlo method.
