Abstract: Songhua River is the biggest one in the northeast of China, where is located in the monsoon precipitation zones. There exist a lot of wetlands on the two sides of the Songhua River. Water shortage is the one of main problems that threatens the wetlands existence. In order to restore wetland ecosystem condition in Songnen Plain, some water supply projects are constructed or under planning. In addition, investigating the natural condition in Songnen plain, floodwater is available water resources to restore wetlands. Asymmetrical precipitation distribution causes the heavy flood disaster and great demand of water supply. Flood control system in the Songhua River Basin (SRB) needs flood detention or retention areas. Fortunately, the wetlands in SRB can be used to store floodwater and improve the ecological environment themselves. Through a comprehensive analysis, the paper introduces the background of water supply measures to wetlands and the main ideas of them.
