Abstract: This paper investigates seepage effects on the angle of repose of uniform sediments both analytically and experimentally. The analytical solution relates critical slope to the ratio of the hydraulic gradient of seepage to its critical value under the quick condition by including seepage through a 3-dimensional force analysis. Experimental results show injection and suction reduces and increases the angle of repose, respectively. Laboratory data generally support the theoretically derived expression of the angle of repose in the case of seepage, when a coefficient of the equation is modified slightly to account for sediment shape and size effects.
