Abstract: A numerical model for analyzing flood inundation in urban areas was studied. For the derivation of the breach hydrograph, the interface model was developed by considering the levee overtopping/breach and culvert break. The model was applied to the Mangwon (1994), Ilsan (1990) and Moonsan (1999) floods, which occurred in the Han River basin. The estimated inundation extents agree with observations in terms of inundation depths and flooded areas. It is expected from the results of this study that the suggested model will contribute to analysis of flood hazards and to preparation of flood maps for urbanized river basins.
