Abstract: To obtain higher resolution in numerical simulations, a vertical solution adaptive grid system, in which the grids are automatically adjusted according to the solutions of the local concentration and refined at the region with high vertical concentration variation, is described in the present paper. This new technique is used in a 3D numerical model equipped with an efficient hybrid numerical scheme. Two numerical tests which describe net entrainment and net deposition of sediment transport were carried out to verify the model. The computed results are well agreed with the analytical solutions and experimental data. This technique greatly improves the numerical accuracy for high concentration variation by comparison with the Sigmatransformation.
