Abstract: Experiments of nitrate transport are carried out under precipitation condition by means of vertical columns filled up with Ando soils. The farmyard manure and a chemical fertilizer are loaded on the soil and simulated rainfall is generated from the top. The measured concentrations of nitrate extremely exceed 1Om g/1 which is a concentration limit of nitrate for drinking water in Japan. Anum erical model NITRAT is approxim ately applied to simulate the experimental works by modifying the values of biochemical param eters and using numerical result of unsaturated seepage velocity. From these results, it can be seen that the concentrati on of nitrate in the Ando soils extrem elyrise up after the manuring and the variation of concentration is gradually reduced in depth and retarded according to the transport by the seepage flow.
