Abstract: A three-dimensional particle image velocimetry (3-DPTV) apparatus is realised to evaluate the dispersion coefficient tensor components in a saturated porous medium by means of the reconstruction of the velocity field inside the medium by a Lagrangian approach. The matching index technique is used to allow optical access inside the saturated porous medium. The 3-DPTV system is composed of two cameras for simultaneous acquisition of flow field images from two orthogonal directions and a suitable hardware for images acquisition and processing. The analysis of the images allows first the tracer particles trajectories reconstruction for each direction and then, applying matching conditions the determination of the three dimensional trajectories. The results of the statistical analysis of tracer particles velocity are presented.
